Recently, YOFC helped China Railway Corporation build a data center with YOFC’s MaxBand® OM5 broadband multi-mode fibers, which is the first large data center in China using the OM5 multi-mode fiber on a large scale.

It is reported that this is a master data center project of China Railway Corporation, located in the Jingjin Gaocun Science & Technology Innovation Park in Wuqing District, with the total investment of RMB 2.27 billion, a floor area of about 70 mu and the gross area of about 46,000 m2. Upon completion, it will be mainly used for the core data storage of the railway industry, and storage and exchange of data from 12306.cn, as well as the deployment of the centralized full-link application system of China Railway Corporation and the storage of data resources. It is the first data center of China Railway Corporation. With the 40G WDM system, it will be upgraded to achieve higher capacity in the future. At present, the project is under construction and is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2018, which will provide super-premium intelligent information services for the travel rush during the Spring Festival in 2019.

Master Data Center of China Railway Corporation

At present, YOFC is the largest multi-mode fiber supplier in the world. The MaxBand® OM5 broadband multi-mode fiber developed by YOFC was released at the US OFC conference in 2016, and can support the communication transmission of at least 4 wavelengths within the wavelength range of 850-950nm, enabling the latest short wavelength division multiplexing technology (SWDM). Compared with the existing parallel technology, the SWDM technology can support the high-bandwidth transmission of multiple wavelengths on one optical fiber, while the conventional multi-mode fiber at present only supports the single wavelength transmission of 850 nm. If a fiber is considered as a highway, the SWDM technology is like widening a one-lane road into a four-lane road, and the capacity is increased by four times. The Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (PCVD) rod making process used by YOFC enables the ultra-fine refractive index profile control. After being optimized with the waveguide materials, it provides the MaxBand® OM5 broadband multi-mode fiber with excellent bandwidth performance in longer wavelength windows. The MaxBand® OM5 broadband multi-mode fiber adopts the profile design with a sunken cladding structure to achieve the excellent bending resistance.

Short Wavelength Division Multiplexing

This is a basic project for China Railway Corporation to promote railway Internet, big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence to use the Internet technology and the information-based means to carry out work, and is of great strategic significance. China Railway Corporation, together with YOFC, applied the OM5 multi-mode fibers to a large data center for the first time, which not only provides high-quality solutions featuring with low cost, low energy consumption, high performance and perfect compatibility for the data center transmission, but also lays the foundation for further upgrading to 100G, 200G and even 400G in the future. YOFC will use the high-quality fibers and integrated wiring solutions to help China Railway Corporation achieve three "world leading positions" and "three improvements".
