On the morning of November 6, Vision China event under the theme of "Leading to the Future with Technological Innovation" was jointly hosted by China Daily and Wuhan Municipal People's Government. This event sought to highlight the crucial role of science and technology in contributing to China’s development. Mr. Jan Bongaerts, Senior Vice President of Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company, addressed the event.

According to Jan Bongaerts, after 35 years of R&D and innovation, YOFC, has emerged as a leading player in Wuhan's optoelectronic information industry. During this period, the company has been striving to advancing the development of a globally competitive optical communication industry cluster within the Optics Valley of China in Wuhan. Moreover, YOFC has exported its innovative technological achievements overseas, leveraging China’s ‘dual circulation’ policy, emphasizing both domestic and international economic flows. These efforts has not only fostered the high-quality growth of the global digital economy, but also bridged the global digital divide with Smart Link solutions. He said, to achieve Wuhan's digital transformation, YOFC will stay committed to innovation-driven development and make sci-tech breakthroughs.

Optical fibre networks have advantages such as large transmission capacity, ultralow latency and a long distance coverage, and are of vital importance in accelerating digital transformation in industries including logistics, transportation, healthcare, mining and education. Jan Bongaerts highlighted that the digital economy is thriving as a major driver of GDP growth in many countries and optical fibre networks are seen as the best choice for digital economy infrastructure. Now, the explosive growth of remote working, cloud gaming, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, increased demand for bandwidth and fibre infrastructure. Currently, YOFC is striving to promote technological innovation and advance the development of a globally competitive optical communication industry cluster within the Optics Vally of China in Wuhan.

Vision China was launched in early 2018 by China Daily, an international, all-media, multi-language, and multi-platform English portal, launched to create an innovative platform to tell China’s stories to the world in the new era.
