After 2-year plus construction and operation, the National Key Laboratory of Fibre & Cable Manufacturing Technologies, which is based in YOFC, passed the acceptance organized by Ministry of Science and Technology on July 13. The acceptance meeting was chaired by Mr. Wu Gen, Division Chief of Ministry of Science and Technology, Fundamental Research Management Center. Also present at the acceptance meeting were Deputy Director Zhou Wenneng of Ministry of Science and Technology, Fundamental Research Department, Director-general Guo Yuejin of Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and YOFC President Zhuang Dan among others.

President Zhuang Dan was the first to make a speech on behalf of YOFC. He expressed the warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to the officials and evaluation experts.

Dr. Luo Jie, Director of the Laboratory, made a report about the construction and operation of the lab. On December 17, 2010, the Ministry of Science and Technology approved the construction and trial operation of the National Key Laboratory of Fibre & Cable Manufacturing Technologies. Over the past 2 years, the lab has been following the principles of its operation mechanism featured by “openness, fluidity, collaboration and competition”. To meet the requirements in the Guiding Proposals about Relying on Restructured Colleges, Institutes and Enterprises to Build National Key Laboratories, it has made the utmost efforts to build the innovation platform and development the technical talents in the lab while establishing the operation mechanism and management institution. In this period, the Lab has taken 8 state-level research programs and made collaborative researches with universities and colleges, research institutes and enterprises, resulting in a number of innovative research results.

After the review panel, headed by Academician Jiang Desheng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, listened to the report, they made a site visit to the Lab to study its test/experiment conditions. All the members in the panel believed that the Lab, as required by the Construction Task Charter, has been targeting at the leading technologies, generic technologies and key technologies in the industry and has engaged in a number of activities in technical innovations and basic application researches in relevant fields, thus considerably improving its innovation capacity. Some research results have reached the internationally advanced level. As a result, the panel approved the acceptance because they believed the set targets of the Lab construction have been met in a comprehensive way.

In the end, Director-general Guo Yuejing of Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology and Vice Director Zhou Wenneng of Ministry of Science and Technology made the conclusion speeches. They expressed congratulations on the acceptance of National Key Laboratory of Fibre & Cable Manufacturing Technologies. At the same time, they also hoped the Lab could deem the acceptance as a new starting point, work hard to introduce top talents, make extensive and in-depth researches and high-tech innovations and harvest greater results.
