In October 2013, Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Company Ltd. (YOFC) completed single channel Tbit real-time online transmission with WDM system in association with China Telecom Corporation Limited Beijing Research Institute, ZTE and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. The related paper "Demonstration of Real-time 1.2 Tb/s Transmission over 4 Types of Fibre with Nyquist WDM Prototype System" has been contributed to the OFC this year, and part of the test results hit the headline of the October 24 issue of Ren Min You Dian (See China Telecom single channel Tbit long-distance transmission creates world record for details).

The test system was designed on the basis of 100-kilometer simulative spanned operation. YOFC provided three types of communication fibre measuring 2,000 kilometres each, including G.652.D as well as new products--low-loss G.652.D and large-effective-area low-loss G.654.D, for comparison testing. This is a frontier cooperation test representing the highest industrial standards and internationally advanced technologies and conducted by YOFC in association with several industrial authorities. The rest results are of forward-looking and guiding significance to telecom operators' selection and deployment of 100G+ and Tbit trunk fibre.

The test results show all the three types of fibre are applicable to Tbit ultra-high-speed long-distance transmission, and the new product-large-effective-area low-loss G.654.D performed better.

During test liaison, preparation and execution, thanks to the diligence and close cooperation of leaders and colleagues from the company's national key laboratory, R & D centre and strategic centre as well as the strong support from the special product department of the manufacturing centre, the test was completed successfully despite the tight schedule, the heavy task, frequent emergencies and the holiday.
