After the groundbreaking of the Zhejiang Lianfei project recently, Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company (stock symbol: 6869.HK, hereinafter referred to as “YOFC”) reported a news of success again: the grand groundbreaking ceremony of the YOFC’s Qianjiang Science & Technology Park Project was held in the Jianghan Salt Chemical Industry Park, Qianjiang City, Hubei Province today.

The Party Secretary of Qianjiang Municipal Committee of Hubei Province Zhang Guihua, the Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor Huang Jianxiong, President of the Municipal PCC Zhang Zongguang, member of the Municipal Standing Committee and Municipal Politics and Law Committee and deputy secretary of Municipal Party Leadership Group Xiao Li, member of the Municipal Standing Committee and Executive Deputy Mayor Luo Maowen, member of the Municipal Standing Committee, Director of United Front Work Department and President of General Union Li Xibin, Deputy Director of Municipal People's Congress Xu Zhengqing presented at the groundbreaking ceremony and expressed their congratulations. The YOFC’s Chairman Wen Huiguo, Director Zheng Huili, Vice President Zhang Mu, Technical Director and YOFC Qianjiang Company’s General Manager Luo Jie, general manager assistant of Finance Center Qin Zhihong, manager of Continuous Improvement and Project Management Department Liu Aibin attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

According to the plan, the whole YOFC’s Qianjiang Science & Technology Park Project will be constructed in three phases. The total investment of the Phase I engineering project is over RMB 1 billion. Three projects will be constructed in Phase I: optical fibre preform project jointly invested and constructed by the YOFC and Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd., optical fibre and optical fibre preform project wholly owned by the YOFC as well as the joint venture project of silicon tetrachloride raw materials. After the completion of the projects, it is expected to be the preform production base with the largest monomer capacity in the world.

Located in northwest Qianjiang City and neighboring Hanjiang River on the north, Jianghan Salt Chemical Industry Park is an industrial park set up by the Qianjiang Municipal Party Committee and Government according to the idea of developing the circular economy. It is a major strategic choice to develop the circular economy in order to implement the resource strategy, promote the sustainable utilization of resources and safeguard the state economic security. As the world’s leading enterprise in optical fibre and cable, the YOFC has chosen to construct the Science & Technology Park in the Jianghan Salt Chemical Industry Park based on the concept of circular economy and consideration of saving operational costs: Jianghan Salt Chemical Industry Park is the national demonstration and pilot park of circulating transformation. The main by-products such as diluted hydrochloric acid and saline water produced during the process of producing optical fibre preform in the Science & Technology Park can be recycled; meanwhile, the Science & Technology Park is closely adjacent to the Jianghan Oilfield salt chemical general plant. The hydrogen, chlorine and caustic soda produced during the ionic membrane caustic soda processing in this plant can be used as the main raw materials for the production of the projects of the Science & Technology Park. Besides, the raw material transportation is much more secure and convenient, which will greatly save the operational costs of the Science & Technology Park.

YOFC’s Qianjiang Science & Technology Park will follow the develop concepts of developing the circular economy and advanced manufacturing. By the implementation of the project, the YOFC will further consolidate the whole-industrial-chain and multi-process development strategies to practice the enterprise social responsibility, perfect productivity layout and fully promote the enterprise’s comprehensive competitiveness. Meanwhile, it will also bring better economic, social, scientific and technological profits to the construction and development of Qianjiang City.
